SUMMARY:IDA Global Development: Sustainable and smart mega cities
DESCRIPTION:On Monday 28th\, IDA Global Development will focus on the world's growing metropolitan areas and sustainable development based on water\, resource consumption and smart solutions.\n\nAt the conference\, Professor Henrik Madsen from the CITIES project will present a presentation on smart and integrated solutions in smart cities as a key to sustainable development.\n\nThrough specific examples\, the event will focus on where and how international research\, Danish companies\, knowledge and technology can be part of the solution and help sustain sustainable development by\, for example\, creating IT-intelligent cities.\n\nBy 2030\, 60 percent of the population of the Earth is expected to live in urban areas\, and one in three will live in cities that contain more than half a million inhabitants. Out of the 31 mega cities of the world (ie cities with more than 10 million inhabitants)\, 24 of the cities are located in the global south. Another 10 mega cities are expected to grow - all in the global south. It poses huge demands and challenges for infrastructure and planning as well as the environment that will supply the mega-cities with food\, water and other resources.
